San Javier, Chile Deploys First Ambulance to Boost Primary Health Care

The municipality of San Javier announced the acquisition of its first dedicated Primary Health Care (APS) ambulance, a Basic Type II Emergency Ambulance financed with 107,933,000 Chilean pesos from the Royalty Law. The vehicle will operate out of the CESFAM Carlos Díaz Gidi and will transport patients to the San Javier Hospital for higher‑complexity care, easing pressure on the hospital’s emergency department.

Mayor Luis Alarcón Núñez said the ambulance is a key step toward launching the short‑stay SAPU unit, which will serve patients classified as C4 and C5 and reduce wait times. “This is a very important day for San Javier… the arrival of this vehicle will allow us to habilitate the SAPU Corto and attend C4 and C5 patients, decongesting the hospital emergency,” he said.
