San Jerónimo Monastery hosts exhibition on Empress Isabel de Portugal
The Real Monasterio de San Jerónimo has launched a new exhibition titled ‘La Casa de la Emperatriz Isabel de Portugal’. The showcase explores the 16th-century imperial and courtly life through clothing, jewelry, and social codes used by the era's protagonists to project their image.
In collaboration with the Museo del Prado, the exhibition features recreations of dresses and accessories based on historical portraits. The project commemorates the 500th anniversary of the stay of Emperor Charles V and Empress Isabel de Portugal in Granada, highlighting the monastery's role in the imperial court landscape alongside the Alhambra.
The exhibition is located in the Sacristy and the Chapter House, using the monastery's architecture to contextualize the historical narrative. It also highlights the figure of Fray Pedro Ramiro de Alba, the prior of the monastery who promoted the General Studies that preceded the University of Granada. The display will run until January 9.
