San Joaquín to host international folklore and national Huapango festivals

The municipality of San Joaquín, Querétaro, is set to host several major cultural events aimed at preserving and promoting Huapango and folklore traditions. The upcoming schedule includes the first International Folklore Festival, taking place from September 18 to 27.

Following this, the fifth National Huasteca Music Encounter and the fourth National Choreographic Contest of Huapango Huasteco will be held from October 9 to 11. The choreography contest is expected to feature 30 groups from various regions, including Querétaro, Puebla, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Sonora, and Tlaxcala, with a prize pool exceeding 100,000 pesos.

Querétaro’s Secretary of Culture, Ana Paola López Birlain, noted that these events highlight the continuity of Huapango as a tradition passed down through generations. Municipal President Carlos Manuel Ledesma Robles stated that these gatherings will consolidate San Joaquín’s role in the preservation and diffusion of the state’s cultural heritage.
