San José and Bridgestone implement sustainability and infrastructure upgrades in Costa Rica
The Municipality of San José has authorized a major overhaul of its waste management infrastructure. Led by Mayor Diego Miranda, the Municipal Council approved the purchase of 21 new garbage collection trucks at a cost of ₡2,340 million colones. This follows a previous acquisition in December, bringing the total municipal investment in waste management logistics to ₡3,263 million colones to address operational bottlenecks in the capital.
In the private sector, Bridgestone is advancing sustainable mobility and industrial decarbonization in Costa Rica. The company has installed its first electric boilers in the Americas at its Costa Rican manufacturing plant. Developed in technical partnership with the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), this transition from fossil fuels to renewable electricity is projected to eliminate approximately 12,400 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
