San José and Bucaramanga raise water, waste fees in July

Effective July 1, 2026, San José, California, will increase rates for garbage collection, water, and sewer services. Single‑family homes face a 7 % rise in trash fees, multifamily units a 4 % rise; water charges rise about 4 % and sewer fees about 3 %. Officials cite higher operating costs and inflation as the reason for the adjustments.

In Bucaramanga, Colombia, the Acueducto Metropolitano will also raise tariffs for water, sewer and cleaning services starting July 1, with the first increase appearing on September bills. The plan applies a 16 % jump initially, phasing in to an overall rise of roughly 25 % by February 2027. Low‑income households (strata 1‑2) could see an increase of around $4,900 in their monthly bill. The change follows a new regulatory resolution from the national water‑service commission.

Both cities attribute the hikes to rising costs and regulatory updates, affecting thousands of residents.
