San José Dam reaches 50 percent construction progress

Construction of the San José Dam has reached 50 percent progress, according to Raúl Lanza, interim manager of the Municipal Unit of Drinking Water and Sanitation (UMAPS). The project, supported by Mayor Juan Diego Zelaya, is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2028.

The dam will have a capacity of between 8 and 9 million cubic meters. It is designed to provide water to more than 300,000 people in the southeastern sector of the capital, specifically the Kennedy colony area. This new water source is intended to reduce the load on the La Concepción system, potentially allowing for better distribution to other parts of the city, including Comayagüela.
