San José to build Metro Sur Police Station to boost local security

The Municipality of San José has announced the construction of the Metro Sur Police Station, a major infrastructure project designed to decentralize security services in Costa Rica. Located in Sagrada Familia on a 4,001-square-meter plot near the Teodoro Picado Stadium, the facility aims to provide enhanced security coverage for the high-density districts of Hatillo, Sagrada Familia, and San Sebastián.

The station is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2027. The project is intended to bring law enforcement closer to community hubs, including local libraries and parks, to improve responsiveness and public safety. Legal experts suggest the modernization of such facilities is a critical step in aligning local law enforcement with constitutional mandates regarding public safety and administrative efficiency.
