San Jose concertgoers hospitalized during The Chainsmokers show

Fourteen concertgoers were hospitalized during a performance by electronic music duo The Chainsmokers at Discovery Meadow in San Jose, California, on Friday night, September 4.

The San Jose Fire Department responded to multiple calls for medical assistance starting around 8:22 p.m. To manage the incident, officials deployed an Ambulance Task Force, two advanced life support fire units, and a Battalion Chief. A total of 14 ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and all 14 patients were transported to local hospitals.

San Jose police reported that the hospitalizations were linked to “suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues.” While some attendees received on-site treatment from paramedics, the medical emergencies occurred while the concert continued. The Chainsmokers have not issued a public statement regarding the incidents, though they shared footage of the large crowd on social media.
