San Jose Earthquakes acquire midfielder Eduard Löwen from St. Louis CITY SC

The San Jose Earthquakes have acquired German midfielder Eduard Löwen from St. Louis CITY SC. The deal includes $425,000 in general allocation money (GAM), with an additional $500,000 in conditional GAM based on performance-based incentives.

Löwen, 29, joins San Jose to provide playmaking experience and stability to a midfield that has struggled since the league's restart. San Jose head coach Bruce Arena noted Löwen's versatility and leadership qualities. The midfielder will occupy a Designated Player slot for the remainder of the 2026 season to assist with salary cap management.

Löwen leaves St. Louis as the club’s record-holder for regular-season goal contributions, having recorded 20 goals and 27 assists in 84 matches. The trade provides St. Louis with significant salary cap space and an open Designated Player spot, which the club intends to use to acquire a center forward.
