San Jose man arrested after leading police to two murder victims

Marcelino Castro, 28, is under investigation for a double murder in San Jose after voluntarily surrendering to police and leading investigators to two bodies along the Guadalupe River corridor.

According to prosecutors, the first victim was an acquaintance of Castro who was killed on September 13. The suspect allegedly lured the man to the area to smoke methamphetamine, then strangled him and slit his throat. The second victim, a stranger, was reportedly lured to the river trail under similar circumstances, then strangled and struck with a rock.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Gadeberg noted that the crimes appeared to be driven by a motiveless compulsion to kill, raising concerns that the incidents could be the beginning of a serial killing spree. Castro missed his scheduled court appearance on Wednesday, and his arraignment has been rescheduled for Thursday.
