San Jose police officer shot and hospitalized

A San Jose police officer was shot on Tuesday afternoon near Lick Avenue and Goodyear Street, prompting a massive law enforcement response in the area south of downtown. The officer was transported to Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities, including Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies and potentially university police, established a heavy presence in the vicinity. While witnesses reported seeing an individual on the ground and suggested a suspect might be barricaded, police had not confirmed these specific details by Tuesday evening.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan planned to visit the injured officer at the hospital. As of Tuesday night, the shooting remained under investigation, and officials had not released the officer's condition or confirmed whether a suspect had been apprehended.
