San Juan 2050 plan targets economic innovation and agroindustry
The Technical Economic Commission of the San Juan 2050 Strategic and Sustainable Development Plan has proposed a new economic agenda for the San Juan province in the Dominican Republic. The initiative aims to transition the region from its traditional role as the ‘granary of the South’ into a territory of productive innovation.
Led by Alberto Ramírez Cabral, rector of the UFHEC university system, and Dr. Víctor Paniagua, general manager of CoopCentral, the commission identified opportunities in agroindustry, commerce, cooperativism, and sustainable investment. The strategy focuses on leveraging the province's territorial advantages, including its water resources, agricultural tradition, and a population of approximately 244,667 inhabitants, to generate high-quality employment and economic diversification.
The plan seeks to move beyond traditional approaches that focus solely on structural difficulties, instead articulating the efforts of academic, business, cooperative, and institutional sectors to build a more competitive provincial economy.
