San Juan agricultural sector advances wine and grape production

The agricultural sector in San Juan, Argentina, is undergoing significant developments in both wine and table grape production. The 27th edition of the Wine Evaluation of San Juan (EVISAN) is scheduled for September at the Universidad Católica de Cuyo. This event evaluates local wine vintages by analyzing samples before packaging to provide wineries with technical reports for quality improvement. Despite a decrease in overall wine production, participation remains steady, with 92 samples received from 34 wineries in the previous cycle.

Simultaneously, provincial authorities, producers, and engineers are working to restructure the table grape sector. Following discussions at a grape symposium in Chile, the government of San Juan is coordinating with genetic development companies to facilitate the importation of new grape varieties through licensing agreements. This initiative aims to align local production with global market demands. The provincial government has committed to providing financial support to assist producers with the necessary crop conversion processes.
