San Juan authorities investigate potential child abuse after school graffiti

Authorities in San Juan, Argentina, are investigating a potential case of intra-family abuse after a ten-year-old student left messages in a bathroom at the Carlos María de Alvear primary school. The graffiti, which stated the child was pregnant and identified an uncle as the perpetrator, prompted an immediate judicial response. While the messages had been partially erased before authorities arrived, they were photographed as evidence.

The Ministry of Education of San Juan has identified the child and arranged for a Gesell Chamber interview to clarify the context of the messages. Additionally, specialized support teams have been deployed to provide psychological assistance to the student's classmates. Education Minister Silvia Fuentes stated that the ministry is working to address the situation and provide containment for those affected.

In response to the incident, officials in the neighboring province of La Rioja highlighted the importance of Comprehensive Sexual Education (ESI). Vanesa Navarro, Secretary of Planning and Educational Innovation in La Rioja, emphasized that ESI provides children with the necessary tools to recognize rights violations and communicate them to trusted adults. Navarro confirmed that La Rioja continues to prioritize ESI as a provincial educational policy despite national funding challenges.
