San Juan de Sabinas Mayor Óscar Ríos requests medical leave
Óscar Ríos Ramírez, the mayor of San Juan de Sabinas, has announced his decision to take a temporary leave of absence from office due to health reasons. Ríos Ramírez has informed the Coahuila state government and the local council of his decision, noting that he will undergo medical studies in Monclova next week.
Pending the formalization of this leave, first councilman Ulises Cárdenas Herrera is expected to assume the municipal functions temporarily. The Coahuila State Government has pledged institutional support to the City Council to ensure the continuity of municipal services, programs, and projects during this transition.
The Congress of the State of Coahuila is awaiting official notification from the City Council to determine the legal path forward. Luz Elena Morales Núñez, president of the Congress Governing Board, stated that while the council must first approve the leave, there is no specific legal timeframe for the City Council Secretary to notify the legislature. If the leave is deemed definitive, the matter will be referred to the Governance Commission to designate a permanent successor according to the law.
