San Juan de Ulúa to host ‘Joyas del Pescador’ collection

The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) has announced that the ‘Joyas del Pescador’ collection will no longer be exhibited at the Baluarte de Santiago in Veracruz. Instead, the artifacts will be displayed at the Museo Casa del Gobernador within the San Juan de Ulúa fortress.

Fernando Molina Herbert, director of the INAH Veracruz Center, stated that the Museo Casa del Gobernador is expected to open to the public by the end of 2026, at which point the collection will be unveiled. He also addressed rumors regarding the collection, confirming that the set of ‘Joyas del Pescador’ is complete and remains under the protection of INAH.

The Baluarte de Santiago is currently closed to undergo a museographic redesign. The new exhibition will focus on the history of the Veracruz city walls, from their origins to their conclusion, incorporating findings from recent excavations in the historic center. Additionally, visitor numbers at the San Juan de Ulúa fortress have shown a 10 percent increase compared to the previous year.
