San Juan del Río hosts charreada to promote youth engagement with Mexican traditions

To celebrate International Youth Day, a charreada was held at the Lienzo Charro JESAR in San Juan del Río, Querétaro. The free event aimed to promote charrería as a national sport and preserve Mexican cultural traditions among younger generations.

Edgar “Güero” Inzunza, president of the Youth and Sports Commission of the Querétaro State Congress, led the event. He emphasized that providing spaces for sports and cultural activities helps strengthen a sense of belonging and pride in Mexican roots. He stated, “We want our youth to know, enjoy, and make our traditions their own. Charrería represents part of our history, our culture, and our identity as Mexicans.”

The competition featured performances from three teams: Bravos de Azuela “San Agustín”, Rancho El Pitayo from Querétaro, and Rancho El Suspiro PIQ from San Juan del Río. The event drew families from San Juan del Río and surrounding communities to watch various charrería skills.
