San Juan del Río Hosts Over 12,000 Pilgrims on Route to Mexico City’s Guadalupe Basilica

On July 19–20, 2026, San Juan del Río, Querétaro, welcomed more than 12,000 women participating in the 64th annual pilgrimage to the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Municipal authorities coordinated security, road closures and support services, providing shelter, food and blessings as the pilgrims rested before continuing the next morning toward the State of Mexico.

Simultaneously, thousands of men, children and elders from the Sierra de Querétaro arrived, completing the traditional mixed columns that converge in San Juan del Río before proceeding together along the federal highway. The multi‑day trek, marked by harsh weather and physical strain, continues a 130‑year uninterrupted tradition of devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe.
