San Juan del Río infrastructure projects and water leak repairs

The Municipal Water, Sewerage, and Sanitation Board (JAPAM) in San Juan del Río is undertaking several infrastructure initiatives. In the city center, workers are replacing the sanitary drainage network on Constituyentes Street, a project expected to conclude by November 2026 to improve sewage flow and public health. Additionally, the local government has completed the rehabilitation of Cadereyta Street in the Vegas del Río neighborhood, involving an investment of over 1.8 million pesos for improved drainage, sidewalks, and stone paving.

JAPAM has also begun repairing a significant water leak in the Río Moctezuma area near the Autonomous University of Querétaro. The leak, which residents estimated could have wasted nearly 588,000 liters of water since April, is located on private property. The repair follows a long-standing 28-year dispute between the landowner, Felipe Cabello Pérez, and the water board regarding land use. JAPAM has committed to seeking an economic solution for the property use and has set a deadline of March 30, 2027, to remove the pipeline from the premises.
