San Juan del Río police under investigation after man's death

Lidia Uribe Chávez is demanding justice following the death of her 33-year-old son, Óscar “N”, during a police operation in the El Pedregoso neighborhood of San Juan del Río. The incident occurred in late May after Óscar “N” was detained by State Police while consuming alcohol in a public space.

Investigations and an autopsy revealed that the man died from internal injuries, specifically a ruptured spleen that caused a fatal hemorrhage. The family alleges that the death was the result of excessive force used by three State Police officers during the arrest. Social media videos reportedly show the officers using disproportionate force during the detention.

The three officers involved have been removed from their duties while legal proceedings continue. The mother has questioned why an ambulance was not requested given her son's condition before he was transferred to a civic court. Legal hearings regarding the case are scheduled to resume in October.
