San Juan Market Releases Weekly Prices as El Palomar Seafood Stays Steady

The Municipality of San Juan posted reference prices for a wide range of vegetables, fruits and meats for the week, showing typical retail ranges such as tomatoes between 1,500‑2,000 pesos, bananas 2,000‑2,300 pesos, and chicken cuts from 3,800‑4,000 pesos.

At Mercado El Palomar, vendors reported that most hydrobiological product prices remained stable during the Fiestas Patrias holiday. Shrimp and yuyo faced shortages – shrimp due to a cold spell and yuyo because warmer water linked to El Niño reduced its supply. Prices listed included shrimp at 32‑36 soles per kilo, langostinos at 32‑36 soles, and corvina at 40‑45 soles per kilo, while other seafood such as mussels and octopus stayed within prior ranges. Demand rose ahead of the holiday, with the market attracting many shoppers.

Both markets aim to keep essential food items affordable for local consumers while adjusting to seasonal and climatic factors.
