San Juan province holds funeral for victims of Valle Fértil air crash
On Saturday, San Juan province organized a series of funeral rites for the victims of the July 29 air crash in Valle Fértil, which killed seven people, including four provincial officials.
A mass was celebrated at the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista and broadcast live. After the service, a funeral procession moved through the city, stopping at the police headquarters, the Civil Protection Directorate, the fire‑brigade barracks and the town of Benavídez before proceeding to the capital cemetery.
The officials laid to rest were Carlos Heredia, director of Civil Protection; Germán Videla, police commissioner; Rubén Castro, fire‑department chief; and Jorge Carbajal, sub‑commissioner. The crash also claimed the lives of pilots José Luis Sánchez and Carlos Fernández and crew member Fabián Torres. Families, colleagues, provincial authorities and many citizens attended the ceremonies to pay their respects.
