San Juan prosecutors notify former officials in Acueducto Gran Tulum probe

Prosecutors in San Juan have notified eleven former officials and business representatives regarding an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the construction of the Acueducto Gran Tulum project. This procedural step, conducted by the UFI of Special Crimes, informs the individuals of the investigation's existence and their legal rights prior to any potential formalization of the case.

Among those notified is Sergio Uñac, a former governor and vice-governor of San Juan and current national senator. Other notified individuals include former officials from Obras Sanitarias Sociedad del Estado (OSSE), such as former president Cristian Andino, former head Guillermo Sirerol, and former legal chief Humberto Caballero. The list also includes Julio Andino, who served as Minister of Infrastructure between 2015 and 2023, and Gustavo Mastelono, president of Krah América Latina S.A., the company awarded the contract.

The investigation was initiated in December of last year following a complaint by lawyer Marcelo Arancibia and journalistic reports concerning the mega-project. Prosecutors Francisco Pizarro and Sebastián Gómez are leading the case, which has recently received judicial authorization to extend the preliminary investigation phase.
