San Juan regions undergo economic and infrastructural shifts

In San Juan, Argentina, the economic landscape has undergone a significant transformation over the last two decades. Data from the Observatorio de Empleo y Dinámica Empresarial (OEDE) shows that between 2004 and 2024, the province added 1,721 private companies, representing a 30% growth. The commercial sector has become the dominant economic driver, increasing from 1,308 companies in 2004 to 2,286 in 2024, rising from 22.8% to 30.6% of the total business fabric. Conversely, the agriculture, livestock, and forestry sector saw a notable decline, dropping from 25.2% to 13.6% of total establishments.

Other growing sectors include construction, which tripled its number of firms, and the hospitality and restaurant industry. The health sector and transport, storage, and communications services also reported increases in company numbers.

Meanwhile, in San Juan, Dominican Republic, President Luis Abinader led the commencement of construction for the Plaza ARCASA and a new campus for the Universidad Federico Henríquez y Carvajal (UFHEC). The 19,000-square-meter project aims to integrate higher education, commerce, and services. The new university campus will focus on academic offerings in technology, science, and innovation to meet modern labor market demands and stimulate local economic and social development.
