Puerto Rico power outages and San Juan solar park announcement
In Puerto Rico, a major electrical disturbance caused by a downed distribution line hitting a 230,000-volt transmission line has left nearly 200,000 customers without power. The incident triggered the shutdown of EcoEléctrica generation units and activated automatic load shedding. The outage has also impacted water services, with the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) reporting that voltage fluctuations forced nine pumping stations to cease operations, affecting over 37,000 customers.
In San Juan, Argentina, Governor Marcelo Orrego announced the construction of the province’s first Community Hybrid Solar Park in the Iglesia department. The project, to be executed by EPSE, will feature a 10 MW photovoltaic plant and a 30 MWh lithium battery energy storage system (BESS). Funded by the Veladero Project Infrastructure Trust, the facility aims to stabilize the local grid by storing solar energy for use during high demand or nighttime hours.
