San Juan woman charged with illegal appropriation of rental vehicle

A 28-year-old woman, Luz Celeste Mejías Castro, has been charged with illegal appropriation of a vehicle in San Juan. According to police investigations, Mejías Castro rented a 2025 Kia Seltos on July 31, but failed to return the vehicle or maintain contact after the contract expired on August 31.

The vehicle was located by authorities on September 7 in the Ramos Antonini residential area. Following instructions from the Prosecutor's Office, charges were filed under Law 8 for the Protection of Vehicular Property. A judge found cause for arrest and set a $1,000 bond, which Mejías Castro paid before being released pending a preliminary hearing.
