Boca Juniors bolsters squad, San Lorenzo eyes Eduardo Berizzo as coach

Boca Juniors completed two key signings for the 2026‑27 season. Right‑back Leandro Lozano, 27, arrived from Argentinos Juniors after a medical and a $3.5 million transfer, signing a four‑and‑a‑half‑year contract that runs to the end of 2030 and joining pre‑season training immediately. The club also secured goalkeeper Álvaro Montero from Vélez Sarsfield; the Colombian international will sign a four‑year deal after the 2026 World Cup, providing a replacement for injured Agustín Marchesín and expanding Boca’s options between the posts. Boca’s transfer strategy also includes monitoring other goalkeepers such as Gerónimo Rulli and Sergio Rochet, though no deal has been finalized.

In parallel, San Lorenzo has begun searching for a new head coach after Gustavo Álvarez’s unexpected resignation. The club’s new president, Marcelo Culotta, has identified former Chile and Paraguay manager Eduardo Berizzo as the leading candidate. Berizzo, 56, previously coached clubs in Europe and South America and most recently managed León in Mexico. A video‑call is planned to discuss terms and potentially secure his appointment.

Both clubs are acting swiftly to reshape their squads and staff ahead of the upcoming domestic and continental competitions.
