Italy sees wave of religious and community site restorations

Various religious and community sites across Italy are undergoing significant restoration or reopening following periods of closure.

In Rome, the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina has completed restoration work on its wooden ceiling and left-side chapels, a project described by parish priest Daniele Micheletti as a symbol of cooperation between the State and the Church. Similarly, the Church of S. Maria in Cartecchio in Teramo is set to reopen after being closed due to 2016 earthquake damage, following conservation work on its artistic surfaces and structural consolidation. In Comunanza, the historic Church of San Francesco d'Assisi is also reopening after more than fifty years of closure, supported by an investment of over 630,000 euros.

Educational and cultural infrastructure is also seeing revitalization. In Sant’Angelo a Fasanella, a new multifunctional center has been inaugurated to serve as a middle school. In Africo, the via Fratelli Bandiera school is reopening after thirty years of closure, funded by the PNRR. Additionally, the Diocese of Cassano all’Ionio has announced a 5.5 million euro plan to restore Palazzo Nola, an 18th-century building, to promote cultural and social rebirth in the community.
