San Luis candidate Ricardo Pérez Castro linked to former land trafficking investigation

Ricardo Roberto Pérez Castro, a former official from the Municipality of Punta Negra, is running for deputy mayor of San Luis. He is part of the Renovación Popular ticket, which is headed by his wife, María Rosario López Solano, as the mayoral candidate.

Pérez Castro was previously detained in 2020 during a major police and prosecutorial operation against an organization known as ‘La Jauría del Sur’. The investigation involved alleged land trafficking and other crimes. His candidacy, alongside his wife, has drawn criticism from local community leaders in San Luis who have raised questions regarding the potential for a continuous municipal power structure.
