San Luis Governor promulgates law for partial constitutional reform

Governor Claudio Poggi has promulgated Law No. XIII-1213-2026, declaring the necessity for a partial reform of the Constitution of San Luis. This marks the first major constitutional update for the province since 1987.

The reform aims to modernize the provincial charter, which predates the 1994 national constitutional reform. Key proposed changes include an absolute prohibition on re-election after two terms, modifications to the electoral system, and adjustments to the structure of the Judiciary. Other focus areas include new technology-related rights, the constitutional prioritization of water, and limiting discretion in the selection of candidates for the Council of the Magistracy.

The process will move to a Constitutional Convention consisting of 52 members, who will be elected by popular vote during the 2027 provincial elections. This convention will be responsible for debating and finalizing which of the enabled modifications will be officially incorporated into the Constitution.
