San Luis Potosí advances forest fire management legislation

State agencies, federal authorities, specialists and legislators gathered in the second ordinary session of the Forest Council to develop a legal framework for protecting ecosystems in San Luis Potosí. The meeting, attended by the Secretariat of Agricultural Development and Water Resources (Sedarh), reviewed forest fire incidents from 2026 and discussed progress on a proposed Fire Management Law for Forest Ecosystems.

Local deputy Tomás Zavala González presented the draft law aimed at strengthening fire prevention, combat and integrated management across agricultural, ranching and forested areas. Secretary Jorge Luis Díaz Salinas emphasized the state government’s commitment to permanent coordination among institutions to improve prevention, conservation and responsible fire handling.

The initiative follows Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona’s pledge to enhance protection of natural heritage and promote coordinated actions for the care of the state's natural resources.
