San Luis Potosí prepares winter emergency operations

The government of San Luis Potosí is preparing for a prolonged winter season, with authorities forecasting eight cold fronts in November and low temperatures that could persist until February 2027. Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona has pledged necessary resources to support municipalities through winter operations, focusing on high-risk regions like the Altiplano.

Nadia Ochoa, head of the State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC), has instructed municipal governments to prepare shelters, monitor weather forecasts, and implement measures to prevent vulnerable populations from sleeping on the streets. As part of the 2026 Winter Operation, the state will provide blankets, cots, food supplies, and specialized personnel to municipalities in need.

Additionally, the Secretariat of Social and Regional Development (Sedesore) is planning the distribution of blankets in priority zones and preparing the continuity of the Food Security program to assist families facing economic pressure in early 2027.
