San Luis Potosí and Rosario address motorcycle safety and household debt

In San Luis Potosí, Mexico, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported an increase in motorcycle use, driven by affordability and its role as a transport alternative for low-income workers. José Adolfo Ortiz Ibáñez, director of Traffic Police and Mobility, noted that many riders lack basic training, operate without proper permits or license plates, and include a rising number of minors. In the last week, eight motorcycle accidents occurred in the capital, resulting in three injuries and no fatalities. Authorities are preparing a safety course to address these risks.

In Rosario, Argentina, the Municipal Council has initiated debates on several projects aimed at addressing rising household debt. Councilwoman Norma López, who authored several proposals, emphasized that over-indebtedness has become a structural social and economic issue rather than a private matter. Proposed measures include the ‘Desendeudemos Rosario’ initiative, municipal support programs for family debt relief, and personal loans for those in debt through the Municipal Bank. The council is also collaborating with consumer rights organizations to inform its legislative work.
