San Luis Potosí approves cell phone restrictions in schools

The San Luis Potosí state legislature has unanimously approved a reform to Article 60 of the State Education Law, restricting the personal and non-pedagogical use of cell phones and electronic devices during the school day in basic education services.

Under the new regulations, devices may only be used for specific pedagogical purposes determined by teaching staff, or in cases of emergency and health-related reasons. The reform aims to foster a better learning environment, strengthen social coexistence, and ensure the responsible use of digital technologies.

The State Secretariat of Education (SEGE) announced that while the restriction is set to take effect on November 3, educational authorities will have six months to establish specific guidelines and implementation measures. SEGE plans to work with school communities, including teachers, parents, and students, to provide information and support during this transition.
