San Luis Potosí approves specialized prosecutor for forced disappearances

The LXIV Legislature of San Luis Potosí has approved the creation of a Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation and Prosecution of Forced Disappearance and Disappearance Committed by Private Individuals. This new entity will replace the previous Specialized Unit and will operate with its own formal structure and budget within the State Attorney General's Office.

Legislator Luis Fernando Gámez Macías stated that the initiative was driven by search collectives and families of the disappeared. The new office is designed to comply with federal standards and international commitments, ensuring investigations include context analysis to prevent cases from remaining as mere records. Personnel, including ministerial, police, and forensic staff, must meet specific profiles established by the National Conference of Justice Prosecution and comply with the requirements of the General Law on Forced Disappearance.
