San Luis Potosí authorities target cattle theft and telephone extortion
The State Attorney General's Office of San Luis Potosí (FGESLP) is conducting investigations into several cases of cattle theft (abigeato). Attorney General María Manuela García Cázares noted that while the frequency of these crimes has decreased compared to previous years, the Huasteca region remains a historically problematic area for the livestock sector. The office has coordinated with the Livestock Association to provide direct contact lines to Public Ministry officials to ensure immediate attention to reports.
Additionally, the FGESLP has launched a prevention campaign titled “Colgar es ganar ¡No te dejes engañar!” (Hanging up is winning! Don't be fooled!) to combat telephone extortion and virtual kidnapping. This initiative, coordinated with the State Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), will be implemented across the state's four regions. The campaign includes educational talks in schools and the dissemination of preventive information to encourage victims to report crimes through official channels, such as the 089 anonymous reporting line.
