San Luis Potosí Congress commemorates Guachichil State Day

The Congress of San Luis Potosí, through the Matilde Cabrera Ipiña Institute for Legislative Research and Evaluation, held a commemorative event titled ‘Tradition, Lineage, and Resistance’ to mark the State Day of the Guachichil People on July 19.

Deputy Ana María de la Cruz Olvera stated the event serves as an act of historical justice and identity recognition, aiming to strengthen the memory of indigenous peoples and increase their cultural visibility. The initiative seeks to foster historical education, community dialogue, and the development of public policies that respect collective rights.

State Secretary of Culture Juan Carlos Torres Cedillo reaffirmed a commitment to protecting indigenous heritage and ensuring traditions are passed to future generations. Additionally, Mario Godoy Ramos, the state delegate for the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples, emphasized the necessity of disseminating Guachichil culture and worldview following years of invisibility and exclusion.
