San Luis Potosí Congress enacts reforms on forest fire prevention and electoral tribunal

The Congress of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí approved a decree reforming the State Environmental Law to strengthen regulation, prevention and combat of forest fires, aligning the rules with the federal NOM‑015‑SEMARNAT/AGRICULTURA‑2003 standard. The measure aims to protect communities and ecosystems from recurring wildfires that threaten local economies and public safety.

In a separate legislative initiative, the state’s internal regime commission passed a reform of the Organic Law of the State Electoral Tribunal. The changes remove the rotating presidency, establishing a two‑year term without immediate re‑election, and introduce a mechanism to fill vacancies promptly. The reform also makes the Tribunal’s assets inembargoable and imprescriptible, safeguarding its resources during the upcoming 2026‑2027 electoral cycle.
