San Luis Potosí Congress moves to honor chroniclers and advance 2027 electoral reforms

The state Congress of San Luis Potosí approved a proposal to establish the “Day of the Potosí Chronicler” on 14 October each year. The measure, promoted by deputy Luis Emilio Rosas Montiel and endorsed by the Education, Culture, Science and Technology Commission, commemorates the founding of the Council of Chronicle of the State’s municipalities and aims to recognize and preserve the work of local chroniclers. As commission president Crisógono Pérez López noted, “Los cronistas municipales son los guardianes de la memoria colectiva y los encargados de rescatar la esencia de cada región.” The resolution will be sent to the full Congress for a final vote.

In parallel, deputy Rubén Guajardo Barrera, president of the Internal Regime and Electoral Affairs Commission, outlined a two‑stage electoral reform process. The first stage removes a transitory article that had required a female gubernatorial candidate in the 2027 election—a provision vetoed by Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona. The revised bill will be approved as‑is, while a second package will later integrate additional proposals from multiple parties, including PVEM, PT, PAN and others. The reform also moves the formal start of the 2027 electoral process to 15 November of the preceding year, with the deadline for further amendments set for early August.
