San Luis Potosí Congress passes new reforms to strengthen women’s protection

The State Congress of San Luis Potosí approved amendments to the Law of Access of Women to a Life Free of Violence. The reforms introduce the legal concepts of due diligence, aggressor and differential approach, and expand the definitions of community and school violence. They also require the creation of a national registry for protection orders covering women, girls and children, aligning the state legislation with federal standards. The initiative was promoted by Deputy Dulcelina Sánchez de Lira, who emphasized that clearer definitions of the aggressor and mandatory due‑diligence for public officials aim to improve prevention, investigation and sanctions for gender‑based violence.

These changes are intended to enhance protection for women, girls and adolescents in public, community and educational settings, and to ensure that state authorities comply with higher human‑rights standards.
