San Luis Potosí deputy threatens legal action over university rector dispute
Deputy Héctor Serrano Cortés has announced his intention to escalate a dispute with the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP) to national and international legal bodies. The conflict stems from Recommendation 10/2026 issued by the State Human Rights Commission (CEDH), which calls for Rector Alejandro Zermeño Guerra to issue a public apology to Serrano.
The recommendation follows comments made by the rector in March regarding Serrano’s origins. The UASLP University Council recently voted unanimously not to accept the CEDH recommendation. Serrano has criticized the recent violent takeover of CEDH facilities by collectives protesting the recommendation, suggesting the timing of the protests coincided with the University Council's deliberations to exert political pressure.
Serrano stated that he will continue to pursue legal avenues to ensure the recommendation is upheld, regardless of local opposition or protest actions.
