San Luis Potosí expands sign‑language services for 50 000+ residents

The government of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí, under Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, has intensified inclusion and non‑discrimination actions for people with hearing or communication disabilities. State agencies now provide interpreters in public offices to ensure Mexican Sign Language users can access services and complete procedures without barriers.

According to INEGI data, the state recorded 33,950 individuals with hearing impairment and 22,645 with speech or communication difficulties in 2020, totaling 56,595 people with communication‑related disabilities. The new measures aim to serve the more than 50,000 sign‑language users identified by the state’s technical council.

These steps are part of a broader effort to make public administration more accessible and to integrate people with disabilities more fully into civic life.
