Governor Ricardo Gallardo launches water subsidy and Plaza Condor renovation in San Luis Potosí

Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona of San Luis Potosí announced a proposal for the state congress that would have the state government pay the water service bills for elderly residents of the metropolitan area and exempt households from paying the INTERAPAS fee when water does not reach their homes. The announcement was made alongside the launch of the “TortiApoyo” program, which provides subsidized tortillas at 14 pesos per kilogram—a 45% discount—and will be expanded to additional neighborhoods and municipalities. Gallardo also said a new food‑assistance initiative will deliver eggs and start free‑laundry services in October.

In a separate event, Gallardo inaugurated the comprehensive rehabilitation of Plaza Cóndor in Villa de Pozos, a project covering more than 22,500 square metres with new green spaces, LED lighting, a multi‑use court, playgrounds and upgraded water and sewage networks. The development is expected to serve roughly 2,800 residents and is presented as part of the governor’s broader effort to improve public security and community infrastructure.

Gallardo highlighted the state’s 81% decline in homicides during the first five months of the year, framing the infrastructure and social‑welfare measures as complementary to improved public safety.
