San Luis Potosí health officials announce expansion of medical clinics
Leticia Gómez Ordaz, the Secretary of Health for San Luis Potosí, presented recent health outcomes and future plans during a legislative hearing. A primary initiative involves the planned opening of 453 medical clinics across all municipalities in the state. These clinics will be staffed by doctors or nursing personnel to provide primary care, prescribe medications from a 60-item basic list, and improve healthcare access in underserved communities.
Regarding epidemiological trends, officials reported an 87 percent reduction in dengue cases during 2026, with no recorded deaths from the disease. Additionally, vaccination efforts have seen success, with measles vaccination coverage reaching 100 percent for the six-year-old age group.
The state continues to manage health promotion and prevention following the federalization of medical services through IMSS-Bienestar. While medical units and drug warehouses have been transferred to the federal system, the state remains responsible for salary dispersion for thousands of workers and continues to coordinate emergency services via a fleet of 187 ambulances.
