Claudia Sheinbaum defends school maintenance program
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has defended the ‘La Escuela es Nuestra’ program against proposals from the PAN party to transfer control of school maintenance funds to municipal governments. Sheinbaum argued that the current system, which delivers resources directly to parents and teachers, is more efficient and transparent than hiring private companies through local authorities. She noted that less than 1 percent of cases have reported operational issues.
In San Luis Potosí, Deputy Crisógono Pérez López, president of the Education Commission, has called for increased state and federal budget allocations for 2027. While acknowledging progress in educational infrastructure, he emphasized the need for continuous investment in school rehabilitation, technological tools, and classroom equipment to meet the permanent needs of evolving school communities.
