San Luis Potosí Mayor defends controversial municipal hiring
Enrique Galindo Ceballos, the mayor of San Luis Potosí, is facing scrutiny regarding the municipal hiring of Enrique Dahud Uresti, the interim leader of the National Action Party (PAN). Galindo defended the arrangement, stating that Dahud is contracted under a fee-based scheme for specific services and that the practice is not illegal.
The controversy escalated when Galindo countered accusations from Luis Fernando Gámez Macías, president of the State Congress, by alleging that Gámez Macías simultaneously receives a salary of approximately 32,000 pesos from the General Secretariat of Government. Galindo characterized the legislative scrutiny as political maneuvering, comparing the situation to a “corrupt equation” where institutions are used for political attacks rather than genuine oversight.
While the mayor maintains that the hiring of the PAN leader is transparent and fulfills specific functions, critics and legislative members have called for greater fiscalization and transparency regarding the use of public resources for political figures.
