San Luis Potosí mayor rejects property tax hikes despite new federal law
The municipal government of San Luis Potosí is analyzing the potential impact of the recently approved General Law for the Strengthening and Harmonization of Cadastral and Registry Services. Although the federal reform, passed by the Senate, promotes the continuous updating of cadastral records to reflect market values, Mayor Enrique Galindo Ceballos has stated that his administration does not intend to increase property taxes or cadastral values.
Galindo has instructed the Cadastre department to study the specific implications of the national legislation to determine how it might affect the municipality. He noted that the 2027 revenue law aims to maintain current levels for municipal taxes, rights, and fees, as it will be the final year of his administration. While some fees indexed to inflation may adjust automatically, the mayor emphasized the goal of avoiding additional tax burdens on citizens.
