San Luis Potosí and Puebla authorities alert citizens to high flood risks

Authorities in San Luis Potosí and Puebla are implementing emergency measures due to heavy rainfall and high flood risks. In San Luis Potosí, the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) reported that 80% of the state's municipalities—47 out of 59—face medium to very high flood risks, affecting over 2.5 million people. Critical areas include Tampamolón and Tamazunchale.

To coordinate the response, Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona and CNPC head Laura Velázquez Alzúa established an Inter-institutional Command Post. The state government has announced a co-investment scheme to provide municipalities with emergency equipment, including ambulances and rapid boats for the Huasteca region. Efforts are also underway to perform drainage cleaning and ensure hospital readiness.

In Puebla, Mayor Pepe Chedraui is supervising real-time water level monitoring in vulnerable zones such as Puente Negro, El Santuario, and Canoa to prevent accidents and protect residents during the current weather conditions.
