San Luis Potosí officials investigated for alleged criminal ties

Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona has confirmed investigations into mayors and municipal public security directors in the Huasteca Potosina region for their alleged links to criminal groups. The inquiries focus on officials who reportedly facilitated the entry and establishment of organized crime members in various communities by failing to intervene or by actively providing facilities for criminal activities.

The Governor noted that some officials have been “100% omissive,” allowing criminal organizations to operate without local interference. Additionally, authorities are monitoring individuals from other cities who pose as legitimate entrepreneurs to integrate into the local economy while allegedly participating in illicit activities, a pattern linked to recent cargo transport robberies.

Regarding high-impact crime enforcement, the Governor stated that approximately 450 high-profile individuals have been detained, with around 180 transferred to federal penitentiaries in states such as Guanajuato and the State of Mexico over the last three years to avoid local facilities like the La Pila prison. The investigations involve the participation of the General Prosecutor's Office (FGR).
