San Luis Potosí rector warns of declining emotional bonds in youth

Néstor Garza Álvarez, rector of the Universidad Politécnica de San Luis Potosí, has called for the strengthening of emotional bonds between parents and youth within the home. His remarks follow the death of a student from the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí.

Garza Álvarez emphasized that parental support must go beyond occasional digital messages and involve constant mental and emotional availability. He warned that the excessive use of digital platforms and social media may hinder the ability of young people to develop the skills necessary for real-time, in-person social interactions. He suggested that rather than focusing solely on restrictions, the goal should be teaching responsible use of technology, including artificial intelligence.
